Basseterre, St. Kitts – The TDC Home and Building Depot has once again shone the spotlight on the importance of renewable energy, energy conservation, and efficiency, at the recently held Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Utilities et al, Energy Unit National Energy Fair.

The event, which was held on Friday 15th November 2024, under the theme, “Invest in Sustainable Energy: Accelerate the Transition,” saw Sales Associates from the store’s Lighting and Electrical Department interacting with and educating the public about a variety of innovative products, empowering them to adopt more energy-efficient practices such as:

Solar energy solutions that offer clean, renewable power for homes and businesses

Energy-efficient appliances and home systems designed to lower electricity usage

Smart home technologies that optimize energy management and promote conservation

Practical tips and demonstrations on how to integrate energy-saving measures into everyday life

The TDC Home and Building Depot’s participation underscores its commitment to playing its part in sustainability and supporting initiatives that foster a greener, more resilient future, as the Federation transitions towards the use of more sustainable resources.

The activity formed part of a series of initiatives organized by the Ministry to commemorate CARICOM Energy Month, which is celebrated annually in November.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – In a significant show of corporate support, TDC has donated over twenty-five gallons of BERGER paint, towards The Cable’s Joseph N France (JNF) Hospital Patients and Visitors Lounge Renovation Project.

The newly modernized space has been transformed using warm, welcome and tropical colours, which was revealed at the official ceremony on Tuesday 22 October 2024, to celebrate the completion of the six-month long project, which was spearheaded by the Telecommunications Company, The Cable.

In speaking of the corporate partnership, Ms. Jhanelle Brown, the TDC Client Relations and Marketing Manager (Ag) spoke of TDCs contribution and the underscored the value corporate partnership for community advancement.

“In 2023, our golden anniversary year, we were approached by Ms. Patricia Walters, the CEO of The Cable collaborate on this venture, to which TDC said, yes, recognizing the value of corporate partnership and giving back,” said Brown.

She added, “Healthcare is an essential part of our community’s well-being, and we are proud to contribute to the enhancement of the Joseph N France Hospital through our donation of paint for this meaningful initiative. We believe that a fresh, modern environment will have a positive impact on both patients and medical staff. Today, two companies who are synonymous with quality and innovation and a commitment to community development. This aligns seamlessly with our collective values to transform this space into a place of comfort, hope and healing with colour. This project is not just about revitalizing another space, this is a symbol of our commitment to the well-being of our community. Over twenty-five gallons of durable, environmentally friendly paints suitable for healthcare facilities was used to transform the lounge that includes the waiting area, outpatient counters, and public corridors, to make the frequently used space even brighter, and more uplifting space for all who visit or use the services of the institution.

TDC has also recently completed a similar project on the island of Nevis, with a contribution to the St. Georges and St. Johns Senior Citizens Home in Gingerland, to give the building a much-needed facelift.

As the Federation observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the TDC Home and Building Depots are playing their part to raise the level of consciousness about the disease that affects women and men.

Pinktober, the annual Sales and Awareness Campaign, gives customers the opportunity to receive ‘pink savings’ with up to forty percent discount on a wide range of products throughout the store, and online at www.shoptdcgroup.com.

The retail stores have also set up the ‘Pink Room’, a private and confidential space in store that offers free breast screenings, by a team of trained and certified health professionals, on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. with the chance to win a free mammogram.

Saturdays have also been dubbed, Solidary Saturdays, where the staff has decided to wear an item of pink clothing, to “support the fighters, admire the survivors, honour the taken and never give up hope” for those affected by the critical health issue.

Pinktober forms part of the companies’ annual cause related outreach programmes to advocate and educate the public about the realities of breast cancer.

The St. Kitts Marriott Resort in Frigate Bay will play host to the event, under the theme, Honouring the Legacy, Building Resiliency, 51 Years – We are TDC, and will be held on Saturday 27th July 2024.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The TDC Home and Building Depot on St. Kitts and its corporate partner, the Toledo Lock Company hosted a ‘Get Locked In’ product demonstration for customers.

The highly interactive session showcased the Toledo line of products including the Nexxus, the Black Series (the TBK90R) and Anti Corrosion High-Security locks.

Mr. Joshua Diaz, Toledo Locks Company Regional Sales Head, engaged patrons updating them on the latest innovations in lock technology with hands on demonstrations, highlighting the features, functions and benefits.

Mr. Diaz also took the opportunity to offer expert advice while educating customers about the importance of choosing the right locks for their needs and offered practical solutions for home and office security.

Patrons praised the idea and openly expressed their pleasure in having the event, as many saw it as a chance to learn more about the products and by extension the services that are readily available to them from the store.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Painters, contractors, architects, and interior designers from across St. Kitts and Nevis have been given the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skillsets about paints and colour technology through four (4) interactive seminars organized by the TDC Home and Building Depots, and its principal, BERGER Paints.

The informative presentations were facilitated by Mr. Darryl Traboulay, Technical Team Leader at ANSA Coatings Limited (Trinidad) and Mr. Roger Brathwaite, ANSA Colour Consultant (Grenada), who highlighted paint innovations, including eco-friendly options, high-durability coatings, colour technology, and application techniques with simple tips and tricks on how to get the best value from paint with vibrant finishes for residential and commercial projects.

“We are thrilled to partner with TDC Home and Building Depot for these sessions. Our goal is to empower professionals and enthusiasts with the knowledge and tools they need to get exceptional results from our products. Our partnership with the TDC Home and Building Depots also underscores the joint commitment to education through awareness and hands on training,” said Mr. Brathwaite, speaking at the end of the final seminar, DIY with Mom.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Mr. Leslie Warner, the Senior Sales Associate at the TDC Home and Building Depot Paint and Colour Centre on St. Kitts, has successfully completed the Architectural Coatings Technologist professional accreditation from the Masters Painters Institute (MPI).

Mr. Warner was one of twenty (20) candidates from across the Caribbean selected by Harris Paints, through its local affiliate, and is first in the Federation to achieve this lifetime professional certification from the Canadian based Association.

The extensive and internationally recognized program tested coatings, technical knowledge across paint categories encompassing different types of paint and technologies, manufacturing processes, colour, application methods, specifications, using industry standards and included a focus on safety and environmental issues.

In highlighting the achievement, Mr. Luke Ticknor, Harris Paints Senior Sales, and Marketing Vice President stated, “This initiative has been very rewarding; to see the knowledge and skill level of our representatives across the region grow and for them to receive an internationally recognized accreditation that will put them in good stead for their career development.”

He added, “Earlier this year, Harris Paints successfully received the MPI quality certification for several of its key paint products. This puts the Harris brand on an equal footing with any of the top north American and international paint brands. The product certifications combined with the training, validates Harris’s commitment to providing quality products and outstanding customer service.”

Mr. Iston Williams, the TDC Home and Building Senior Manager, also commended Mr. Warner and spoke of the value of his newly acquired certification.

“We are very proud of Mr. Warner and congratulate him on his recent success in becoming our very own Architectural Coatings Technologist. We applauded the initiative and agreed to support Mr. Warner. When you have the solid foundational knowledge behind paints, the different technologies and how they work, it makes our Paint Team better equipped to answer queries, offer practical and useful advice, and enhance the customer experience at our stores in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

In speaking of his accomplishment, Mr. Warner stated, “I am extremely pleased. The program was demanding and well-rounded. I had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge even in areas that were not called for daily. It will certainly complement my many years of experience in the paint sector, and be of great benefit to my team, and our many customers.”

Mr. Warner was presented with his official certificate by Mr. Gerardo Quesada, Harris Paints Regional Exports Manager, at a brief ceremony on Friday 3rd May 2024, at the TDC Home and Building Depot (the authorized agents and distributors for Harris Paints) on the Frigate Bay Road in Basseterre.

Over seventy-five women across the St. Kitts and Nevis are now equipped with the knowledge and empowered to use their newly acquired skills in basic Car Care and Welding, thanks to a partnership between the TDC Group of Companies and the Departments of Gender Affairs.

The collaboration between the TDC Automotive Divisions, TDC Home and Building Depots, and the Ministries of Social Development and Gender Affairs, started in the month of March, International Women’s Month, and wrapped up on Saturday 13th April 2024.

The theory and practical sessions were facilitated by a team of trained and certified professionals from within and outside the company, who used their combined years of experience and expertise to conduct the highly interactive sessions. Each participant garnered the basic skills of vehicle diagnostics, along with various welding techniques, and safety protocols.

According to Mr. Kashka Thompson, the TDC Client Relations and Marketing Manager, TDC is thrilled to partner with the Departments of Gender Affairs to offer women the chance to explore and learn. By equipping women with the skill sets and knowledge, we are not only promoting gender equality, but we are also helping to break barriers and promote gender inclusivity by inspiring them.”

He also noted, “This partnership also addresses the gender gap prevalent in technical professions and give women the opportunity to acquire practical skills, gain hands-on experience, and even pursue fulfilling careers in these fields contribute to the growth and development of the economy.”

With the success of the two training sessions, calls are already being made for similar training in electricity, tiling, and woodwork.

For the second consecutive year, in celebration of World Health Day, the TDC Group of Companies, the Nevis Health Promotion Unit and the ICDF hosted a Health and Wellness Fair on Friday 5th April 2024, at the Longstone Building Parking Lot in Charlestown, Nevis.

The fair featured a diverse range of free activities and health services aimed at empowering nationals to make better informed decisions about their general health and wellbeing. These included presentations by the Nevis Red Cross Society, the introduction of the volunteer blood drive by the Alexandria Hospital, and the preparation and tasting session of healthy meals and snacks from Chef Michael Henville and the In Ya Kitchen Team.

Local business houses were also given the opportunity to showcase their products  including the City Drug Store, TDC Home and Building Depot, Native Radiance, Seal My Sip, as well as, health related organizations, the Nevis Red Cross, Lake Health and Wellness debuted a health and wellness game for children to encourage healthier eating choices, the Nevis Mental Health Society, the Nevis Dental Association, the St. Kitts and Nevis Alliance for Equality, along with the Health Promotion Unit  and the Taiwan ICDF providing health screenings and one on one informational consultations with valuable information and tools to support the attendees’ journey toward optimal health.

In speaking about the event, Mr. Dominic Matthew, TDC Marketing Assistant said, “We are thrilled to partner with the Health Promotion Unit and the Taiwan ICDF once again to host the second annual Health and Wellness Fair. As advocates for community health and well-being, we believe that events like these play a crucial role in raising awareness and fostering positive lifestyle changes.”

Ms. Terysia Herbert, Education and Prevention Officer in the Nevis Health Promotion Unit hailed the fair as another success and highlighted the importance of having the event featured on the Unit’s calendar.

“We are committed to promoting a culture of health and wellness within our community with another successful staging. By partnering with organizations like TDC Group of Companies and the ICDF, we can leverage our collective resources to provide impactful initiatives like the Health and Wellness Fair, which we ill be adding to our list of activities in 2025.”

The Health and Wellness Fair was open to the public, and was held under the theme, “My Health, My Right.”
