The public, and customers of the TDC Home and Building Depots in St. Kitts and Nevis will again get the opportunity to purchase a variety of fresh farm produce and ornamental plants at the stores Annual Farmers Market.

The mini marketplace will be open on Saturday 26th March 2022, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at both locations on the Frigate Bay Road in Basseterre and Pinney’s Industrial Estate in Charlestown.

The activity forms part of the companies’ Farmers Appreciation Month initiative, which is specifically designed to recognize the farming fraternity for their continued efforts and contributions in ensuring food safety and security and reducing import substitution.

Complementing the outdoor activity is the on-going discount sale on lawn and garden supplies, such as seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, equipment, and inputs not for only bona fide farmers but to persons involved in various forms agriculture.

Over the four (4) week period, field representatives from the TDC Agro Divisions have been visiting and interacting with farmers, along with other persons involved in crop production to find ways to improve through which the company can better meet and serve their needs.

For the month of March, farmers are being celebrated by the TDC Home and Building Depots for their contribution to agriculture, in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Over the four (4) week period, the retail stores are offering savings on tool, garden supplies, including mulch, fertilizers, pesticides, equipment, machinery, and inputs, among others.

This year, several farmers will be recognized for their efforts with the ‘Farmer of the Year’ Award, which is an in-store shoppers’ incentive launched in 2021, to help them acquire additional materials to better increase output.

To meet their varying needs, field representatives from the Lawn and Garden Centres have been visiting and interacting with the fraternity offering practical advice and solutions on how to improve production, while ensuring food safety and security.

In celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and World Food Day, the Department of Agriculture et al has recognized the TDC Home and Building Depots with a Food Heroes Award.

The accolade represents the companies’ ongoing efforts to actively support the local farming community by providing a wide range of agricultural inputs, technical assistance, training, and the annual Farmers Appreciation Month Sales Event.

According to the FAO website, “behind our food, there is always someone who produced, planted, harvested, fished or transported it. We take the opportunity to thank these #FoodHeroes who, no matter the circumstances, continue to provide food to their communities and beyond helping to grow, nourish and sustain our world.”

The presentation took place on Thursday 15th October 2020, at the Department of Agriculture’s conference room, as one of the activities to mark the celebration of World Food Day.
