The TDC Home and Building Depots continue to reaffirm their commitment to the agricultural sector, through its Annual Farmers Appreciation Month promotion.

From 1st until 31st March, all ‘farmers’ are being given the opportunity to take advantage of the special discount being offered in store and online, via www.shoptdcgroup.com, on a wide range of products, including lawn and garden supplies, fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, irrigation systems, farming tools and equipment.

Over the four (4) week period field representatives from the TDC Agro Sales Departments have been visiting and interacting with several crop and livestock production farmers to discuss ways the companies can best meet their needs.

On Saturday 29th  March, the stores will host a Farmers Market, where farmers will sell their fresh produce and products directly to customers, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., on the Frigate Bay Road in Basseterre or Pinney’s Industrial Estate, in Charlestown.

Farmers Appreciation Month is specifically designed to show gratitude not only to bona fide farmers but to all people involved in agriculture, for their contribution to business growth.

This ‘give back’ initiative also highlights the ongoing relationship with farming fraternities, agricultural associations, and government agencies to support the  National call to buy local, eat local, improve food safety, and security, while enhancing the sustainability of the sector.

As part of their ongoing support for the local farming community, the TDC Home and Building Depots in St. Kitts and Nevis will host their annual Farmers Markets on Saturday 27th March 2021.

The mini marketplace will be open to customers who patronise the stores on the Frigate Bay Road in Basseterre or at Pinney’s Industrial Estate in Charlestown to purchase a wide variety of fresh farm produce and ornamental plants, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The activity forms part of the companies’ Farmers’ Appreciation Month initiative and is designed to reward and show solidarity with the farming fraternity, with an emphasis on promoting the ‘eat local’ message, food security, and import substitution.

Complementing the outdoor activity will be the on-going discount sale on lawn and garden supplies, including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment for not only bona fide farmers but for all persons involved in agriculture.

Over the four (4) week period field representatives from the TDC Agro Divisions have been visiting and interacting with farmers, along with other persons involved in crop production to find ways to better meet and serve their needs.

In celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and World Food Day, the Department of Agriculture et al has recognized the TDC Home and Building Depots with a Food Heroes Award.

The accolade represents the companies’ ongoing efforts to actively support the local farming community by providing a wide range of agricultural inputs, technical assistance, training, and the annual Farmers Appreciation Month Sales Event.

According to the FAO website, “behind our food, there is always someone who produced, planted, harvested, fished or transported it. We take the opportunity to thank these #FoodHeroes who, no matter the circumstances, continue to provide food to their communities and beyond helping to grow, nourish and sustain our world.”

The presentation took place on Thursday 15th October 2020, at the Department of Agriculture’s conference room, as one of the activities to mark the celebration of World Food Day.
